Dull Boy is honestly my favorite Mugshot. Its so young and well done. Like, you’re just bobbing the WHOLE time it honestly never isn’t the catchiest album of all time. The energy is so consistent through the whole album, and the vocal performance is just so dynamic and well executed. Bouncy without being tired or overdone. It has that 2010’s clang, but isn’t a beatdown album. It’s way too cool to be a “hardcore” album. It’s like a bunch of pseudo-deathcore dudes wrote a an uptempo beatdown album. It’s Like it *is* a deathcore album but like, so very also not one. Really kind of a genre bender in an interesting way. Chugcore was really cooking with the Mugshots, Kaonashis and Sabellas of the scene here. Like, what a group! I think Newcomer came pretty close too tbh – I don’t know what you explicitly call that genre of hardcore leaning deathcore, but its certainly not deathcore. Certainly not Triple B stuff either though. I guess we can just exist in 2024 and call it “metalcore” like scrubs. Whatever!
Fir the art on this, I really wanted to take a swing. Something that is the antithesis of the original art to be honest. The OG is black and white and a photo – this is color and fully digital. Pixel art even. It’s not even human! It’s a FOIL in every regard! I think its fun to have it so far removed from the original – really kind of sets it apart and moves it in to 2024. Feels very intentional and there’s a lot to explore on this guy! Vad.jpg did an incredible job on this, and Kai really brought it home with the matching logo and insane layout. You’ll see more on that when it ships!
