I would consider myself a brutal slamming death snob. I wish I had the willpower to sort through crazy Lofi three song demos on YouTube more but I feel like for thestage of life that I’m in, New Standard Elite does a great job of bringing the cream to the top. If it’s in NSE, I know it’s going to rock. Every release that Ryan puts out I give an earnest listen, and wouldn’t you know it! “Makeshift Crematoria” is the best thing I’ve ever heard. When this dropped I was awestruck for a month - I hit the band up immediately and got to work! Better late than never, it takes a year to do an insta! That’s right, June belongs to Trichomoniasis!
Truly, no room to breathe on this album. Absolutely incomprehensible from start to finish. An incredible soundscape of unrelenting drum punishment. Guitar tone and orchestration that almost just becomes truly monolithic - it’s a lot of hard work to make something as riff focused as this truly blend in to just a pulsing mass. If you keep zooming in more and more texture resolves itself, but as you just sit there and take in everything at once, every performance gets out of its own way, and gets out of the way of everything else. It’s simultaneously 100% cohesive and integrated in how extreme every element is - but every performance stands on its own and is the best of the genre has to offer.
I was originally a little intimidated to approach this one because the current art is SO good. I think when it comes tot he genre, the art + logo combo is easily responsible for 50% of how good an album is. This one is exceptional. I wanted to that texture and tone, but of course make it a WV release - so we just got the original artist Juliet Lacarne to reimagine her original. This will be a fun one for you to get in hand as she did a HUGE painting and we were able to chop it up all thought the packaging! Just tighter crops, different lighting. More of a “daytime” vibe than the first, but I think it evokes the same mood! And of course Kai dressed it up a lot with the layout - tons to explore here!
All in all, I’m so pleased to get to once again work with one of my favorite modern bands on a release that I truly think will stand the test of time! I know this isn’t a “slam” label per se, but I appreciate everyone letting me dip my toes in every once in awhile.
