I do not like 4th Wave deathcore! I do not like the revival! And I certainly do not want to be a “deathcore label” that strives to bring you the greatest inup-and-coming revival slop! Its a tough line to walk because this revival splits in to exactly two categories: people who weren’t;t there doing renaissance fair dress up, and scene legends in their 30s who are geniuses and would have been doing this stuff anyway. I’d liek to point you to my revival catalog - PF, KOASD and now the final entry:CRUCIFICTION ! Thats it! Thats the big three! WHo would have thought that the genius behind Bloodbather and 50 other bands would ALSO make the best actual “revival” band? Welcome back Salem! I’m so excited!
Its INSANE to hear a revival album that is 100% just Infinite Death. It’s Infinite Death the full length. Imagine if The Adversary was made with Van Run and produced by Digital Ghost. Thats what we have here. Like, its the most abrasive, intentional, buzzsaw guitar album made in the past 15 years. Salem is doign those vocals that everyone had to stop doign because it was ruining a generation of vocalist’s throats. Medically irresponsible deathcore, but Salem is making that sacrifice so you can bask in the glow of high-budget deathcore. A hero. A saint!
I think PSYCHO-FRAME would have existed in 2025 regardless of what was happening in the scene. Yes, they were very first mover on the revival, and I think that validates that point. Smart dudes making aggressive music. KOASD? Same thing. And now Crucifiction. I think each of these bands encompasses an element from deathcore over the past decade and makes it their own. This album is brave enough to wear its influence on its sleeve and not hide behind any gimmicks. To enter the mind of a band from over a decade ago and create something through someones else’s eyes without reusing or recycling. No bullshit, just true Infinite Death worship. Salem walks the walk.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much more in the way of like, pontificating about this album. Its an album by my favorite guy, produced and mix/mastered by my other favorite guys, in the style of my favorite EP. It’s a privilege to get to work with Rise Records and Salem again to bring something that I consider to be culturally relevant to vinyl for the first and last time here! I think history will be kinder to Crucifiction than most once the dust has settled on what has happened here 2023-2027.
This one was a fun one for me to do from an art perspective because the design brief was “just needs to continue to be fucked up”. The OG had this kind of sterile quality - yes there is gore, but the stark white and instruments gave it that kind of vibe. I went the other way - its basically SAW lmao. The color grading is DIRTY and its much more “material”. I found an artist who does this incredible finger paintings of people dying in red paint, and we used that as the basis for the aftermath of the original cover. Just drawing faces and playing around in the blood. Spooky! Have to hand it to Alex for the layout on tis one - really brought it all together!
Audio was of course handled by the gang over at Digital Ghost. No remaster needed here! Sounds even better on vinyl!
