If you know WV, you’ll know that white belt is my passion, but mid 2010s deathcore and deathcore adjacent bands are guilty pleasure. I think that period of music in time will stand on its own in the same way “MySpace deathcore” does.
Within that scene, there was one band who was almost the uncontested king. That band wasSilence! That’s right! For the first and last time on vinyl I’m happy to present the collected works of Silence on a staggering 2xLP set.
Silence once again checks so many boxes for what I love to do with WV. It’s a scene classic with a very collector-focused mentality. The CDs for both of these are super hard to find, so what better way to get a few more copies out there then on a record! .
I think no matter how you feel about this genre or Silence in general, you’ve got to recognize that it’s a seminal discography. Hunter’s talent spills over in to every project he’s been in (if you like Culture Killer, Graveview, Moodring, DOG, Bodybox then this is the “predecessor”) and Silence is the most “core” thing he’s been attached to. I can’t think of too many early deathcore albums that had the same impact as TINPLH (I mean this came out in 2010, WILD) and when Dead Presidents dropped it was game over. People were doing this kind of pseudo-djent at the time, but I think this album really made this production and sound more mainstream.
I think if you’re unfamiliar with Silence, best thing to do is just listen to it. I can throw around some buzzword and talk about the breakdowns, texture and atmosphere, but if you’re not spin-kicking one song in on either I don’t know what to tell ya!
This is also a fun release this time around because the entire art, layout and everything was handled byLab 13 himself! So happy to finally have a full Kai original in the WV roster! It draws a lot of elements from each release, and really does an incredible job being new and also capturing the essence of both!
Audio was handled once again by Zach atThird Eye Studios This thing sounds INCREDIBLE. And did I mention that there is a BRAND NEW, never released song on this bad boy? It you want to listen to some new Silence in current year, make sure you grab a record!
Such a dream to work with Hunter and the rest of the Silence boys on this project. I think you’re really going to love it!
