Me And Him Call It Us - Asunder

Variant

How many times can I be shocked and impressed? I keep getting high n my own supply! Like here I am again just swooning about what an insane cultural moment we’r havinghere AGAIN. Like, wouldn’t you know it,me and him call it us is BACK! They couldn’t stay away - and neither could I! Insane!

You thought “Epilogue” was thew complete discography huh? Well what if I told you that Aaron had been holding EVEN more material - thats right! We have a bunch of cutting floor songs and even an entirely different version/recording of Loss. Loss 1.0 if you will! The band does a really greta job of explain the lore eon this one:

“Day One of the “Loss" recording process April 2005. Guitar and drums were tracked live together as we began constructing our debut full-length. Our engineer Anthony bounced these WAVs onto a CD-r for us after this session finished, and day two didn't happen for another month +. So this is a time capsule from that spring as we drove around in our cars listening to the mixes presented here.”

I tinik things can exist for the art and for the culture. This release is so much more than the sum of its parts. The art is exhaustive, and every bit as big and deliberate as Epilogue. The booklet is pushing the same amount of content as the booklet on Epilogue, but everything is new. The jacket is a huge gatefold with tons of panels and lots of real-world collage and photography from Kai. Its one of those releases that you admit eon your shelf, and smile knowing that YOU are a MAHCIU fan. The perfect compliment to Epilogue. It turns Epilogue in to MORE than Epilogue - its like a true supplemental/sister release. Just expands context, and gives you so much for the senses to enjoy.

This whole release is about curating a feeling and exalting some early MAHCIU catalog. Its one of those releases where its so art-forward that you forget that there is music on this thing! I’ve been following Matthew Brennan since like, 2020 and have been dying to use some art of his on a release, and when Aaron and I were talking about doing Asunder he immediately came to mind. Its the most like, delicate, fucked up, anatomical art I’ve ever seen and the color palette is very evocative of cool screams bands printing on reverse board jackets, haha. And Kai took these absolutely insane and huge source panels and really elevated them for a band layout. Tons of scans and so much detail. Like, you’ll be able to explore this packaging for a month and find something new every time.

This release really started to come together because of Aaron and I both being fussy packing weirdos. He had more of the MAHCIU story to tell, and I couldn't be happier to have them trust me with it again.
