This project has been almost a year in the making. I’m so so happy with the level of polish and how this has shaken out. Thumbscrew is one of “those” bands - the biggest small band you’ve never heard of. You’d be hard pressed to find a breakdown video in the early 2000s that didn’t have a spastic Thumbscrew banger on it!
These are the type of releases that I get PUMPED for. It’s a dizzying blend of frantic guitar and shrieks - overlaid on piles and piles of spinkicking breakdowns. They took that raw MySpace energy and crowdkill music and refined it in a way that not many bands could touch. They’re your favorite band’s favorite influence, and I’m so pumped they finally get their day in the sun!
This is the body of work that out that mosh energy/live show aesthetic in a polished format. They had sick music videos. Great art. Name power. Sold their CDs on Interpunk. While everyone else was adding keyboard and getting goofy, Thumbscrew was branching off in to more frenzied, dissonant, mathy hardcore. These two albums represent what I think is the best in terms of turn of the millennium mathy moshcore. And I’m so stoked that the band agreed to doing their whole Discog!
I can’t overstate it enough, Thumbscrew was such a huge influence on me, and I’m still pinching myself that they were down for something so ornate and expansive. I don’t think there is a more throat-shredding band, and AIQ is one of “those albums.” Its technical without being noodly, spastic without being corny, and brutal without being over the top. Absolutely a tent pole WV release.
“Enlightenment” is an expansive 2xLP combining both “All Is Quiet” and “Within Hearts of Redemption”. This whole body of work wrapped in just INSANE artwork from Alexandre Goulet and additional text and layout from band member and designer extraordinaire Daniel Maldonado. There’s a lot to unpack with this artwork, so I hope you have a blast exploring it!
