Its a new year and its time for more Yehonala Tapes worship! My love for Tom knows no bounds, so as such you shall be subjected to 30 tracks with a single digit runtime, haha. Its tech time baby! Kids on Crack is here!

Kids on Crack, if you know, is like, peak cool guy tape guy release. The bleeding edge of cybergrind (actually just tech grind with programmed drums, aka my favorite cybergrind). Just an insane manifestation of DIY ethos, punk and true fringe weirdo shit. I honestly think its the crown jewel in the Yehonala discog, and I think lot of people would agree that between the ICONIC art and impressively short tracks that Kids on Crack is one of the few releases of Tom’s that carries ver and has some name-brand appeal.

I mean, what more needs to be said. It’s like 30 tracks and 10 minutes long. Its true just so representative of the early 2000s programmed drums experience. You can see that a lot of KOC influence has carried over in to Tom’s other projects an the man does have a signature sound, haha. KOC def has the most “trve cybergrind” characteristic and edges our Conrad veldt and Call Me Betty in that regard. Swap the lo-fi guitar for a bit of bleeps and bloops! I just think it’s so amazing to have cybergrind that like, is earnest? Not everything is a meme and just overdone to death. Like I know there’s some levity that just goes hand in hand with the genre, but I think COC really was determined to just make something *weird* and the medium happened to be cybergrind in order to push the extremity. It registers very differently than “we’re going to make weird cybergrind” bands imo.

Broaching the art on this was tough. But in a more real sense, it wasn’t hard at all. The OG is so recognizable but also like, not what anyone wanted to do in 2024, haha. As you would expect, Tom went bananas on the full presentation of this. If you loved the WTEOCV art, you can expect more of that! It’s exactly as on the nose as you would want it, and who’s to say if there’s a Sasha Grey homage in the inserts. The only thing that I was adamant on was that it needed a logo! And as usual, Lab 13 delivered on that.
