I’ve been waiting for this day for a LONG time. You might remember that when Aegaeon dropped, I spent the entire writeup for Exponential Transcendence talking about how good Age is, haha. Well, after two years I can finally say that I’m BACK with my absolute favoriteAegaeon material: AGE IS HERE! Ah! The last in hand drop of 2024 and it couldn’t have been a more special release! Join me fellow Aegaeonheads in reveling in the splendor of all that is atmospheric!
In an era of singles and playlists, Age truly sets itself apart by being one of the greatest ”sit down” albums of all time. Like, it has to be digested in one sitting, and if you do you will absolutely be rewarded. I worry that too many will have too severe a case of TikTok brain to full enjoy what Aegaeon has done for us! Its just so rare to have a concept album anymore, and even more rare when you get one that also isn’t stupid and bad, haha. Like at some point, if you’re a WV fan in any way, just sit down and listen to this album. Complete lack of pretension. A true labor of love.
Stylistically, the original Age cover is like CLASSIC big Aegaeon logo on a digital cover type beat. The band had an amazing digital piece commissioned by fivetimesno, and that was the building block for this expansive, glitchy, spacey multicolor layout and art by Kai over at Lab.13. I think it really captures the essence of this release and thew genre itself - very ethereal! Very spooky! Just really so happy with the presentation this record. It’s so cohesive. I think it captures a style of album art that I really ascribe to like, djent/atmosphereic type stuff. This is my fun foray in to that! Just classic Kai - an insane technical showcase wont he power of layout, haha.
Audio was jointly handled by thebans and by Zach. I promise you’ve never heard this album like this - just absolutely an insane flowing experience. I think it sounds better on vinyl than it ever did. Certainly more deliberate. Like, its one of those albums where you have to carve out an hour and just listen to it in completion.
