Success Will Write Apocalypse Across The Sky - Subhuman Empire

Variant

I’ve been looking forward to opening this chapter in WV for awhile now. I know we had nichevember and Sasstober, but who’s ready for Feb-ru-grindy? Grindurary? Whatever! It’s not even a full month anyway, just this one release!

At this point I think I’m able to say and show that MySpace as a genre was more about the divergence and convergence of genres and pushing new boundaries. Obviously someone at Nuclear Blast was paying attention, because Feb 12th’s drop is no other than Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky! Finally a sentence-long band name, haha.

I don’t think you can touch on MySpace at the time without bringing up all these grinders. SWWAATS is just an unending onslaught of relentless blasts, noodles and squeals. It’s a mind-numbing wall of noise with a level of polish that you didn’t see on a lot of DIY grind acts back then! I remembering stumbling across this CD on Interpunk and buying it on a while because the name ruled and the art was so ridiculous, haha.

SWWAATS is absolutely up there with some of my all time favorite fast bands. It’s the perfect MySpace hybrid: we’ve seen a lot of math and core, even some death and core. But in the primordial soup of the early 2000s, grind and death metal were mixed in a way that you don’t see a ton of anymore (or if you do, it’s like, “oh wow that sounds like SWWAATS or BITGOTA”). It’s grind with death metal prowess and some noodle technique, haha. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to work with John Collett since talking to him about Nightmarer stuff with Simon from WFAHM, so I’m so happy we’re able to do this project together!

If you know me, you know 187 and Debello hold such special places in my heart as far as early trailblazing labels. I’m so floored to have another Debello release for you all! If you’re a fan of bands who have something to say, Subhuman Empire is for you!
