Who’s ready for a MEAN one??
WV054S is Kentucky Waterfall! And boy is it a doozy!
KW is one of those “if you know, you know” bands. They’re a bastardization of all the sub genres that made MySpace cool. It’s like if Arsonists Get All The Girls got in to a fist fight with Cloacal Kiss, and that pile of punches got taken to the hospital in an ambulance driven by noodle riff in human form. It’s just roboblasts wrapped in Lombardi vocals with a bit of rock n roll charm.
It’s incredible to listen to this body of work back to back. To hear the progression, the quality of thought and the deliberate-ness of the songwriting and transitions. It’s a fully-fledged “album” masquerading as a jumbled mess.
Joel has been a pleasure to work with through this process. He’s a man with a vision, and you might recognize him from his long list of bands. This is the one that contextualizes it all for me. Listening to his modern output it all kind of starts with KW.
It’s playful and serious. Modern and also loaded with programmed drums. It’s riffs and noodles; blasts and grooves. It’s truly such a dichotomous body of work.
Historical context aside, this is one of those discographies that just “clicks”. It’s an incredible output, spanning almost a decade. It’s deliberate, and just gets continuously more refined as the albums progressed. I think this is one of the better listening experience of a discography that I’ve done.
The art was done by Paolo Girardi who I’ve been dying to work with forever. It borrows elements from every KW work, and wraps it up in to one stunning visual. Lab 13 did his thing as well, and this gatefold experience is expansive and so well polished. I think it’s the perfect cherry on top of this aural assault!
Audio was handled once again by Third Eye Studios and it sounds incredible. It’s an insane level of polish, and really brings the early tracks in to the modern era.

This one has been so much fun, and it’s been a blast to return to some WV roots on this one. Grind on wax, as a big 2xLP, with a big painting? What’s not to love! I think you guys are really going to love it!
