Hayworth - A Nostalgic Battlescar

Variant
What do you put for FFO when the band is literally the de facto FFO band? I can’t think of anyone who did it better than WV030S – its Hayworth!

Allow me to introduce the debut physical release for this Hayworth material a decade later. Literally a dream come true. Hayworth is (and get ready for an onslaught of adjectives) the spazziest, most fun, hardest, most influential, most impressive and all-around best band in the world. There, I said it. I cannot overstate what an seminal band they are and how much impact they had.

I feel like around the dawn of this style of band, you either had to get way more goofy (a la HHLL), get way heavier (in the vein of Thumbscrew) or just lean in to it and stay the course. There was a fracturing that I think claimed a lot of bands where this style of stuff lost some of its appeal, and the gimmicks started.

Hayworth just did it best – somehow able to be a “joke” without being corny. Maybe it’s the self-awareness or just the raw fun of it. I don’t know. You tell me? I’m honestly just saying “I LOVE HAYWORTH” over and over and the context is secondary haha.

But anyway! If you like your grind with a lot of ridiculous vocals, “Nostalgic Battle Scar” is for you. It’s the combination of their two best (fight me) works: I Now Pronounce You Fucked and Depressed and I Hope the Thunder and Lightning Kill You. It’s kind of a “greatest hits” in a sense – focusing on the two big bodies of work that I really think define Hayworth. I think it’s the definitive Hayworth listening experience. It’s a WV “classic” and I’m so so happy to have gotten to be able to bring this to life with the help Evin and the Hayworth boys!

This one was a fun one because everything was able to be done in direct conjunction with the band. No overarching WV vision per se, they had a very specific way they wanted it presented! The album art is a melding of the two original works, with a simple logo by Ben Hoagland that the band chose. Layout was done by Kai at Lab 13.

I’m actually super pumped on this one because the band was able to create a HUGE 24x12 gatefold pull out insert full of content. It’s really an immersive experience and I think you’re going to dig it!

Speaking of the art and presentation, this was another first for the records as well. Evin had a very specific vision for how the variants should be, so we really leaned in to the color matching! I think they play with the art fantastically and the variants themselves go really well with everything here!

Audio was once again handled by Third Eye and it just has so much POLISH. What else to say other than Zach is a madman, and these sound better than ever.

This one-time pressing is limited to 305 copies across five variants:

50 Sig from the Sky (Wax Vessel Signature)
