It can’t be THAT big of a surprise, after all I did do this back with Total Deathcore back in the day! If nothing else I’m consistent - I’ve loved eastern European tech deathcore since its inception, and I have the receipts! You thought Sumatra was it? Not even! It gets even wilder and if you’re not familiar with Genocide of Prescription then get acquainted! Next WV up is a big 2xLP discography for GOP!
There is this undercurrent of insane technicality without being serious. Its liek how American bands were doing samples and funny bits before breakdowns, these guys were achieving the same effect by having the parts be so wonky and noodle that you laugh. It’s got the quality to the writing and pacing that just doesn’t;t sound like American or Australian deathcore. It’s technical without being Brain Drill. It’s heavy without being a carbon copy of just like Whitechapel or Suicide Silence at the time. The production has a lot of like, proto-djent notes - lots of noise gate and riff building. Just a very interesting dynamic.
This release is their whole discography, which is such a treat for me because I did their debut full length with Total Deathcore. Any time I can have a full circle moment just makes me smile, and I love that there’s a bit more of an audience to get some ears on this stuff! It’s actually been over a decade since Genesis was released (12 years, wow!) And honestly it still sound just as modern now as id did back then. I know Dysphoria always needed up being the poster child for this kind of style, but I think GOP is the perfect thing that I love: release a game changing EP with awesome art, and then follow it up with a perfect full length and then dip, haha. The EP to amazing debut pipeline before dissolving remains such a perfect setup for all the best bands from back in the day. Its the perfect discog!
As much as I try to avoid doing tons of repeats, sometimes you just know when something is right for someone. Cauldron wanted Shindy because he had done their previous - that makes sense! Depths was a Shindy because I wanted that illustrative quality that the original had - you bet! But now, I knew it had to be a Shindy because the original were so hyper detailed and I knew he was the only man for the job! We had to treat a hybrid of the two album covers - to blend the illustrative qualities of the EP and Genesis. To carry over the medical gore and monster stuff, and blend it with the color palette and machinery on Genesis.
Audio was handled by Zach again at Third Eye, and I think he was really brought a lot out of this. I tink when works are recorded and made in this way (clean) it really gives him a canvas that is more amenable to his kind of remasters. They sound huge and tight.
