Hunter and I have been gearing up for this one for a LONG time. I love my new spot and the relationship I have with everyone I’ve worked with where we can like, designreleases in a lab to be WV titles. We were chatting, and believe it or not, Hunter had some gas left in the tank and told me he wanted to do a real slam/brutal death project. Like, you’ve heard the gutturals on PF, you know the man has it! You’ve heard the produced output from Digital Ghost. Now what if we put that all together? You’d have DROWNED UNDER CONCRETE - the newest band in the Hunterverse, and a brand new band and album for August! I appreciate the brevity from camp DUC, I’ll let Hunter say it because he says it best: B standard, real amps, live drums, all concrete.
I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome this sounds. I personally love when fringe slam has that bedroom/brickwalled quality, but there’s just something so pure and overwhelmingly brutal about DUC. Like, if you’re a fan of Obscene Majesty era Devourment, you’re going to get something out of this. It feels like such a rare treat to have a current year, name brand studio put something this extreme out that sounds this good. Honestly I don’t have a ton to say on this one because what else is there? It s the most well-intentioned, purpose created slam album in a minute. It think its a high watermark that will be pointed back to for a long time here. Conceived from the start to be a vinyl only, IYKYK type of release.
For the art, I knew I wanted to do somethign "not conventional" on this - something really deep fried and like, "out there" in terms of traditional slam/brutal death art. Having had such a great time with KIMO on the comp art, i thought he could really do an incredible job when given such a huge canvas this time around. Hunter and I really approached this release in a "vinyl-forward" type of mindset - whats gogin to look best on large format. What colors are gogin to translate to great records, etc. Just wanted something thats going to be high impact and look great in hand. As hard to look at as it is to listen to!
We got SO many panels. Just huge paintings and the packaging thought this is SO over the top. Kai over at Lab 13 was really given a ton of freedom to do whatever with color and texture. It's not like anything else out there, I promise you that! Like, if you;re scrolling through some slam playlist and see this art, you're going to stop for a second and really look at it.
